用 sudo apt-get install gcin
Reading package lists…
Building dependency tree…
gcin is already the newest version.
You might want to run `apt-get -f install’ to correct these:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
wine: Depends: winbind but it is not going to be installed

Re: baddog

lazyfai,
1. 為什麼 gcin 會depends on wine 的
2. 先前用apt-get install wine 跑出很多umet dependencies
Reading package lists…
Building dependency tree…
You might want to run `apt-get -f install’ to correct these:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
wine: Depends: wine-bin (= 1.0.0-1+eeepc2) but it is not going to be installed
Depends: wine-utils (= 1.0.0-1+eeepc2) but it is not going to be installed
Depends: libwine-alsa (= 1.0.0-1+eeepc2) but it is not going to be installed or
libwine-oss (= 1.0.0-1+eeepc2) but it is not going to be installed or
libwine-esd (= 1.0.0-1+eeepc2) but it is not going to be installed or
libwine-jack (= 1.0.0-1+eeepc2) but it is not going to be installed or
libwine-nas (= 1.0.0-1+eeepc2) but it is not going to be installed

Depends: libwine-gphoto2 (= 1.0.0-1+eeepc2) but it is not going to be installed

用 sudo apt-get -f install, 再 apt-get install wine 可安裝 wine 了..
4. 以下是我的source.list

Re: baddog
估計最有可能的是 xnv4.xandros.com 這個。

By baddog on Jul 2, 2008
lazyfai,
tks for your patience…
i just managed to install the gcin 1.4.2 after pinned up the xepc.org repos…
just wondering…
y the way to change the input method has totally changed.. b4 it is just a single click, and now it needs to press clt-spacebar… and single click will turn on the conversion to simplified fonts…
the most importantly… where does the pinyin input method for simplified chinese has gone? it will be so vital to the ppl from mainland china…
is it only available in the asus version? or it has been done away from your gcin 1.4.2?
regards

Re: baddog
I think it is specific to ASUS version only, but I will try to make it back to official gcin version, stay tuned.
Yes the method to change input method is changed, and actually it is due to increased function, like traditional chinese < -> simplified chinese and so on.
By lazyfai on Jul 3, 2008
lazyfai,
i love the new feature to convert between traditional and simplified chinese… it is so handy…
however, the pinyin method is so important for gcin being an universal input plugin for chinese ppl in any region..i am working in mainland china… and can assure you here all my colleagues know one and only one input method… i.e. pinyin… so, kindly pls add it back…
btw… *** my previous question…***
is it possible to run chinese software on wine 1.0… or do i need a localised version of wine?
i see the screenshot of your system and it looks you are using a chinese version of linux..
does it matter for running chinese on wine?
By baddog on Jul 3, 2008
Re: baddog
Wine is OK for chinese, but of course, it depends on your environment, if you use chinese environment, it can display chinese correctly, if your environment is english, there may have some difficulties.
For input method, please wait for a while and I will do it these 2 days.

hi lazyfai,
my eee 900 is bought from hk.. i have no problem with displaying chinese filenames in the file manager… so i suppose the stock xandros is chinese enabled…. what more should i do to enable chinese proj running on wine?
By baddog on Jul 5, 2008
Re: baddog
Then it should be chinese-ready, but of course it depends on the programs you run, most of the programs are supported, and wine will “try its best” to run.

hi lazyfai,
just replaced the stock Xandros with Xubuntu 8.04… prefer better support for ubuntu community..
there is no chinese input method installed with scim even though i selected chinese lang option for the installation.. after installation i managed to install lang support for chinese… but the system install a nos of unused stuff, e.g. lang support for Openoffice and other software that has not been installed…
questions:
1. can i remove the unused stuff one by one?
2. wanna replace the scim with your latest gcin… would the gcin in your xepc repos also support Xubuntu?
3. if not, do i need any config after i remove the scim and install the gcin from xubuntu repos (only 1.3.7 from their xubuntu, but i want the auto simplified traditional conversion)?
tks!

Re: baddog
Sorry I only support Xandros based system, for Ubuntu/Xubuntu system please ask in their forum, but for generic questions, I can give you some idea.
1. You can see the list of installed program by “dpkg -l” command, to uninstall a specific program, you can do “sudo apt-get remove xxxxxxx” where xxxxxxx is the name of program you see from the “dpkg -l” output, first column.
2. No, you can get the source package from http://updates.xepc.org/pool-main/source/ and build it under Ubuntu yourself…
3. No, if you uninstalled scim and install gcin, the default input method will be gcin automatically.

Hi,
I just installed the lazyeeepc pack, mainly for the chinese input. However, i can not find pinyin input in the layout options…i wonder how to solve the problem? i do find some tutorial online about enabling the chinese input, but it is for 701 and doesn´t work on 900…..thanks in advance
By dadada on Jul 19, 2008
lazyfai..
removed scim from the ubuntu (and Xubuntu, tried both)…. and installed the gcin from the ubuntu repos (only 1.3.7 ver)…
pressed the CTRL-SPACE, the IM selection does not show up at the right top of the window… i.e. not able to activate the gcin…
interestingly, i opened a terminal session, then right click and context menu popup…there i could select gcin from the input method… and I was able to and activate gcin…however, still not able to toggle with CTRL-SPACE…
how could i activate gcin using CTRL-SPACE?
i checked the gcin setup… and it should be toggled by CTRL-SPACE….
missing anything or scripting ?

Cannot use ctrl-space to change to Chinese input in firefox 3.01 nor pidgin 2.51. But can use it in openoffice and skype. Any way to fix it?

Re: Alan
Are you using full desktop mode?
Seems there are some issues in full desktop mode, so ASUS decided to close it after some version…
By lazyfai on Sep 14, 2008
Re: Lazyfai
No, I’ve just recover from F9, install all update from Asus, then upgrade all from Xepc. And I’m using the easy mode. I also has problem that pidgin 2.51 crashes during start up, while MSN is trying to load, that doesn’t crash with other protocol.

Re: Alan & Lazyfai
1. I using Asus 1000H running 1000’s Xandros
I have the same problem, the firefox 3.01 won’t work with gcin 1.42.
I can walk around this problem by put
[ export GTK_IM_MODULE="XIM" ] in file /opt/firefox/firefox.
Lazyfai may know where this should be taken care of.
In Ubuntu scim work very well with Chinese input.
2 to Lazyfai:
What is the proper way to add the “ttf-arphic-ukai” Chinese fonts into eeepc OS ?
Thank you for your help.

Hi,
I have installed gcin 1.4.2 according to the information provided.
I am using pinyin character input right now but I would like to convert the characters from simplified chinese to traditional chinese automatically. Is it possible for me to do this by using gcin 1.4.2 ? thanks i.e. still using pinyin input but all the characters typed should be displayed as traditional chinese. thanks
By victor on Dec 26, 2008
Dear Jason,
I’m a newbee to eeepc linux os. Can you elaborate more on how to re-enable gcin chinese input in firefox 3 by your “export” command?
Many Thx!!
