Windows with Linux, not all "program to install" the results will be displayed on the "Start menu" in these places,
That is why Windows users have the Start menu so long, there are a few good page, full desktop icons are the reasons.
Most of the program after installation will be in / usr / bin or / usr / sbin in to find out, and then it will not be installed elsewhere,
And then get a link to / usr / bin / xxx and the like.
So usually installed package xyz, in Terminal type xyz will be able to call out, such as xterm, pidgin, firefox, and so on.
Eee PC can basically use Debian (etch version) deb package of the package to install as many as several thousand of the Rules of the software has been packaged,
How to install? Can install lazy Lazyeeepc package, it will library Debian package added to your Eee PC, since you can use a few simple instructions to get installed, examples:
1. Sudo apt-get update (update the package database cache)
2. Sudo apt-cache search xyz (look for any software related with xyz)
3. Sudo apt-get install abc (software installed on abc, if apt-cache search to find the words)
This will install Debian to the countless number of the software.
